Rollerdor Implement new UKCA Marking System

Businesses across the country are continuing to get to grips with new regulations following Britain’s departure from the European Union. Since the transition period ended in December 2020, there has been plenty to think about and Rollerdor are pleased to announce that we’ve begun the implementation process of the new UKCA marking system.

These new regulations have been brought in to ensure the quality of British industry remains high. And, as a company who is proud to be a British manufacturer and supplier, we’re delighted to have started the implementation of these new standards.

All of our products are made and tested in the UK and, with over a decade’s experience as garage door specialists, we remain at the forefront of our industry.

What is the UKCA marking system?

Replacing the previous CE regulations is the UK Conformity Assessment, or UKCA as it’s more commonly known. In short, it is a quick and easy way to determine whether British products conforms with health, safety and environmental guidelines.

Many sectors across the country will be impacted by the change, with the UKCA product marking’s presence required on stock that is being sold in Great Britain. Covering England, Scotland and Wales, most goods that previously needed to declare the CE marking will simply need to switch over to the new process, as long as their testing was completed by a UK test centre.

When does the UKCA marking system come into force?

It already has. Since the UK’s transition period with the EU ended at the end of December 2020, the UKCA marking system has been in place. But, to give businesses the maximum opportunity to adjust, CE markings on products will still be recognised in the UK until 2022. Then, from January 2022, UKCA will be the only regulatory body approved for use in the country.

However, if your business also exports its products in the EU it will need a CE marking there as a UKCA accreditation is only recognised in Britain.

What does UKCA marking apply to?

Many of the same products that required a CE marking will now need a UKCA one. A whole host of industries and services require the regulations including machinery, medical devices, boilers, construction and more.

An extensive list of all industries can be found on the government’s website.

What do I do with the UKCA marking?

You need to display the UKCA marking either on the product itself, or the packaging. By doing this you’re taking full responsibility that your product conforms with all the relevant health and safety legislation.

As well as this, you need to keep a record of all technical documentation which outlines how your product is manufactured, designed and meets all necessary criteria. You should keep hold of this document as the relevant authorities can ask to see it at any time.

At Rollerdor, we are specialists in garage door solutions and can supply and manufacture a wide range of products to meet your needs. Our friendly and dedicated team also provide installation services and maintenance, ensuring your garage doors stay in the very best condition.
