Control & Safety Options

At Rollerdor, every door we manufacture is designed with safety and reliability in mind. On this page, you’ll find an explanation of all the control and safety options we provide to help you choose the right option for your needs.

Rocker switch

A rocker switch is one of the easiest ways to control your garage door. Mounted on the garage wall, it works simply with an intuitive up/down switch to open and close the door. As it’s hardwired into the control system, there’s no need to carry a remote control with you.

Benefits of a rocker switch

  • Simple to use
  • No batteries or remote controls to maintain
  • Compact and low-profile to neatly fit in any garage

Key switch

A key switch works in a similar way to a rocker switch, but needs a key before the garage can be operated. This helps to control access to the garage.

Benefits of a key switch

  • Restricts access just to authorised people
  • Ideal for shared, communal or commercial premises
  • Robust and weather-resistant for outdoor mounting

Hardwired safety edge

Every roller garage door we supply comes with a safety edge as standard. This is a rubber strip that is fitted to the bottom of the door and stops and reverses when it comes into contact with an obstacle.
This safety feature helps to reduce the risk of injury and damage.

Benefits of a hardwired safety edge

  • Automatically stops when in contact with an obstacle
  • Protects people, pets and vehicles
  • Reliable, wired connection

Wireless safety edge

A wireless safety edge provides the same obstruction detection and protection as a hardwired safety edge but without a cable running along the moving door.

This creates a cleaner appearance and is a popular choice when upgrading a garage door.

Benefits of a wireless safety edge

  • Identical stop and reverse operation as the hardwired safety edge
  • Tidier installation with no trailing wires
  • Well-suited to retrofit products

Somfy wireless safety edge with an alarm

For the highest level of protection, customers can choose a Somfy wireless safety edge with an incorporated alarm.

As well as providing the same automatic stop and reverse functionality as standard safety edges, this option has a built-in alarm that will activate if the system is tampered with or is subjected to forced entry.

Benefits of a Somfy wireless safety edge

  • Full wireless safety edge protection
  • Integrated alarm for tamper and self-entry alerts
  • Compatible with other Somfy home devices
