Expert Roller Garage Door Suppliers

One of the many benefits of replacing your garage door with Rollerdor Ltd’s roller garage doors is that our garage door opening mechanisms are designed so that they do not take up any unnecessary space in your garage. They retract straight upwards and into a compact box, meaning they fit near the ceiling, allowing you to maximise the space in your garage for storage or parking. The smooth opening motion means that your garage can maintain a sleek and sophisticated appearance – there are no jerky, shuddering movements as the door opens or closes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Roller Garage Door is Best?

The answer to ‘which roller garage door is best?’ is subjective and really depends on your preferences as well as the unique specifications of your property. This includes things such as size, usage and other factors.

Rollerdor customers can choose between RD55 roller garage doors, which are compact, space-saving and lower in terms of cost, and RD77 roller garage door options. While both are made from robust aluminium slats, due to its additional strength and thickness the RD77 option can cover an opening width of up to 16ft.

Our team can discuss your requirements with you before advising on the best type for your property. This includes both installed and DIY options.

Are roller garage doors better than up and over doors?

Up and over garage doors are perhaps the most traditional type of garage door available, but they’re not always the most efficient choice.

These doors swing open vertically, meaning they take up ceiling space and require room in front of the door when in operation. In contrast, the roller garage doors sold here at Rollerdor retract upwards and sit neatly in a compact box on the ceiling. This leaves extra space at the front of the garage.

Also, as our roller garage doors are insulated and have fewer gaps around them, they can help provide additional insulation. This is because they are sealed at the top and on the sides, with the guide runners also featuring a brush. They also have a rubber seal on the very last slat of the door, so when the curtain fully closes it will contract to help provide an additional way to repel draughts at the bottom.

The durable aluminium we use when manufacturing our products can also enhance security when compared with some traditional up and over options.

What Happens If There Is A Power Failure?

In the event of a power cut, roller garage doors can still be operated manually with the use of a high-level internal manual override. This is something which should always be supplied as standard for a garage door to comply with legislation.

Alternatively, if you have no other entrance to the garage, then you might need an external low-level winding handle access point or a battery backup system.

You can learn more about these options in our blog on the topic.

What Are The Differences Between A Sectional Door and A Roller Door?

Sectional doors and roller garage doors are two of the most popular garage door types in the industry.

As the name suggests, roller doors ‘roll up’ when in operation, retracting upwards into a neat box that is installed on the ceiling. This helps to maximise space on a property.

In contrast, sectional garage doors are designed with horizontal panels that are split and open vertically. However, they require much more space to be installed which is why we always recommend roller door options as the best choice for most properties.

Why Do I Need A Safety Edge System?

A wireless safety edge is an important safety feature for all roller garage doors which should be installed at the point of manufacture. However, if you discover you have a door without one, then we have an excellent retrospective safety edge kit which can be installed.

The safety edge is a sensor that is placed at the bottom of a garage door, this can be hard wired or wireless and its role is to detect when the door hits something in its path, when doing so it will retreat by roughly 200mm. This feature is designed to aid with the prevention of injury to people and enhances the overall safety of the system by stopping the door from closing on someone or something, and therefore allows for the doors to be operated on a one-press open and close system. There are other remote control operating systems available which require the button to be held down and monitored until the door is fully closed to prevent accidents, but these do not comply with current legislation and should never be used for a garage door.
