Our team is always happy to answer any questions you may have about the process, and while the exact size of your garage door will depend on the specific measurements of your property, another common query we receive is in regards to the size of the garage door slats.
All of the garage doors we supply are made of robust, aluminium slats that are designed to enhance your property’s security.
In this article, we’ll explain the different types of garage door slats available and outline what is best for your property.
Why are slats needed on garage doors?
The team here at Rollerdor specialises in the manufacture and supply of quality roller garage doors. Unlike other door types, roller garage doors are excellent at maximising space due to the innovative way in which they operate.
When the roller garage door is opened, they open vertically and retract straight up into a compact box on the ceiling. In order to do this smoothly, the series of slats coil up and roll upwards, instead of moving along an internal track like other garage door types.
With this in mind, garage door slats are far more important on roller doors than other types due to the fundamental role they play in the process of the door’s functionality.
What is the difference between 55mm and 77mm slats?
There are two main types of slats for garage doors, 55mm slats and 77mm slats. 55mm slats are the smaller version of the two and are only suitable for smaller garages, whereas 77m slats are much more versatile and can be used on garage doors of all sizes.
As well as this, 77mm slats provide much better security and also thermal insulation – meaning you can save money on energy bills, too.
At Rollerdor, we recommend selecting 77mm slats wherever possible. This is because in our experience it’s the better option for both security and functionality. But, sometimes the 300mm roll needed for the thicker slat can not always be accommodated. This is where the slim 55mm slat comes into its own with the smaller 205mm square box.
With all of this considered, this is why our team of experts will advise that your garage door includes 77mm slats. For over a decade we’ve worked nationwide, supplying people with the very best roller garage doors. To find out how we can help you, get in touch today.
