Common Roller Garage Door Sizes

When selecting a new garage door, there are a number of things to consider. Appearance, functionality and style are all likely to be high on your list of features, but one thing you may not focus on too much is size.

A lot of the time you won’t have much say on the size of your garage door, but if you’re looking to install a bespoke door for your garage it’s a good idea to know how much space you have available.

Here at Rollerdor, we regularly supply domestic and commercial properties with quality roller garage doors in a whole host of sizes.

In this article, we’ll take a look at some of the most common roller garage door sizes in the industry.

Single roller garage doors

Single garage doors are great for properties that only have one small vehicle, or you don’t need a huge amount of storage space. Typically, single roller garage doors have a width of 6ft 6in and a height of 7ft.

Double roller garage doors are ideal if you have more than one vehicle or particularly large ones like 4X4s. Usually, these types of garage doors come with a width between 10ft 6in to 16ft, and a height of 6ft 6in to 7ft.

How to measure your garage door

If you’re looking to install a new garage door at your property, it’s important to understand how much space you have to play with. This will then help inform what size of garage door is most appropriate for you, as well as ensure any new styles of door will fit in the space.

When taking your garage’s measurements, you need to check the specifications of the:

  • Opening width – use a tape measure and measure from brick to brick. Take care to check the horizontal length from one side to the other
  • Opening height – measure from the floor to the highest point of the door space, otherwise known as the lintel
  • Side clearance – measure the sidewall depth of the door opening from one side to the other
  • Roof clearance – measure the distance from the lintel to the ceiling

Once all of these measurements have been recorded, it’ll be easier to see what garage door size will suit your property best. If you’re unsure about how to take these measurements, consult our handy measuring guide which will provide you with all the information you need.

When choosing your garage door size, make sure you consider your property’s needs. For example, do you have more than one vehicle? Do you have a large amount of equipment to store? These considerations will likely impact what size garage door is best for you.

While size will vary, one thing that always remains consistent at Rollerdor is the excellent functionality of our products that maximise space. Operating on a system that sees doors retract into a compact box on the ceiling, this innovative design means that you won’t have to worry about your door becoming obstructed.
