How to measure your garage door
If you’re looking to install a new garage door at your property, it’s important to understand how much space you have to play with. This will then help inform what size of garage door is most appropriate for you, as well as ensure any new styles of door will fit in the space.
When taking your garage’s measurements, you need to check the specifications of the:
- Opening width – use a tape measure and measure from brick to brick. Take care to check the horizontal length from one side to the other
- Opening height – measure from the floor to the highest point of the door space, otherwise known as the lintel
- Side clearance – measure the sidewall depth of the door opening from one side to the other
- Roof clearance – measure the distance from the lintel to the ceiling
Once all of these measurements have been recorded, it’ll be easier to see what garage door size will suit your property best. If you’re unsure about how to take these measurements, consult our handy measuring guide which will provide you with all the information you need.
When choosing your garage door size, make sure you consider your property’s needs. For example, do you have more than one vehicle? Do you have a large amount of equipment to store? These considerations will likely impact what size garage door is best for you.
While size will vary, one thing that always remains consistent at Rollerdor is the excellent functionality of our products that maximise space. Operating on a system that sees doors retract into a compact box on the ceiling, this innovative design means that you won’t have to worry about your door becoming obstructed.
