What Do Our DIY Garage Kits Come With?

Here at Rollerdor, we’ve spent more than a decade providing customers nationwide with quality roller garage doors that can enhance every type of property.

Not only can our fully trained and experienced technicians provide you with leading installation services when we deliver these products, but we also offer DIY roller garage doors.

This is because we know that, in some cases, our customers are experienced when it comes to DIY and home renovations, and may prefer to fit their new garage door themselves.

In these instances, we’ll deliver your new roller garage door in the form of a DIY garage kit that will come with a range of accessories. In this article, we’ll explain what you will receive when you place an order for one of our DIY kits.

What do our DIY garage kits come with?

If you’ve decided to order a DIY garage kit from Rollerdor, you’ll likely be keen to know exactly what you will receive when the delivery arrives.

We make the process extremely easy for all of our customers, and your DIY garage kit will include the following:

Electric Garage Door

The main part of your order will of course be your DIY roller garage door or doors.

The choice of model you have ordered will dictate how many parts the doors are delivered in.

RD55:

The RD55 comes pre-rolled and assembled, this means that the door will be delivered as a top box assembly consisting of the full box, header plates, barrel and curtain, then the two guide runners, controls and emergency power failure operation system.

RD77:

The RD77 is a larger, heavier door, therefore, in order to keep the weight down for each section, it is delivered in a few more pieces than the RD55. The RD77  consists of the curtain which will be in the front and back case, a pair of header plates with the safety break attached (for smaller doors the header plates will already be attached to the case), the two guide runners, barrel assembly with the motor in, the controls and the emergency power failure operation system. Whether you’ve ordered one door for your home or multiple, the roller garage doors can be made to your property’s unique specifications or your personal preferences. This includes providing DIY garage doors in different sizes, colours and with a range of accessories available.

Control Systems

Hardwired safety edges

All of the garage doors we manufacture meet the necessary health and safety standards, and our products come with hardwired safety edges as the standard choice. These will come as part of your DIY roller garage doors delivery service, and this means that if there is any obstruction to your door while in operation, it will stop and retreat. This is connected from the base rail to the receiver box via a spiral cable.

When ordering, our clients can opt to change the control system to go wireless or even to not have remote controls at all. The various options are available below:

Hardwired rocker switch

The receiver box for our garage doors is replaced with a switch which is installed inside the garage with a clear line of sight of the door. The door can then be operated by pressing and holding either the open or close function. This same rocker switch can also be added as an extra on top of the receiver box, and this can also be hardwired so the door can be opened and closed from a position of your choice, although the receiver box itself does come already with buttons on to open from inside.

Hardwired key switch

This is an alternative a lot like the rocker switch but with one major difference, it can be installed externally as a key is needed to operate the door.

Wireless safety edges

The standard option on our doors is the hardwired safety edge kit which is connected from the base rail to the receiver box via a spiral cable. If this is something you are not happy with, then an upgrade to this is the wireless base rail unit. This works the same way with an optical beam going through the rubber at the base of the last slat, but uses a signal that is bespoke to your individual receiver box to send a command if the beam is broken to stop and reverse the curtain.

All Standard DIY garage kits will come, with:

Two Handsets

You will be provided with two handsets with each receiver box that will help you to easily open and close your garage doors. At just a touch of a button, your door will vertically retract upwards, settling into a neat box that will be located on your garage’s ceiling. This means space will be maximised and you won’t even have to leave your vehicle when parking inside your garage.

A fixing kit and installation instructions

When carrying out a DIY garage door installation, you’ll want peace of mind that you’re doing the job correctly. Fortunately, we provide easy-to-understand installation instructions which are available to download as well as a handy fixing kit with every order.

A form of Emergency Power failure kit

In the event of a power failure it is part of the machinery directive that you should be able to exit the garage. With this in mind, we supply as standard an internal manual override kit which can easily be operated from inside the garage via a winding crank. In the event of a power failure you would use your side door to enter that garage to operate the internal override. As not everybody has another entrance to their garage, we also offer as an upgrade a low level external override kit or a battery backup system to allow access from outside your garage.

UKCA accredited products

As mentioned earlier, we take pride in only providing products that meet stringent health and safety regulations and are of the highest quality. This is demonstrated by the fact that all of our products hold UKCA accreditation.

Every door we supply will come with this marking, reflecting they meet the necessary health and safety and environmental guidelines.
