Due to the unique operating system of a roller garage door, it’s important that your garage space has a certain amount of headroom available.
In this blog, we’ll take a look at how much headroom is necessary for a roller garage door, as well as help you to understand the other measurements required.
Why Choose A Roller Garage Door?
Before we take a look at the details regarding the different measurements and headroom required for a roller garage door, it’s important to know just why they’re so popular.
Perhaps the biggest advantage of roller garage doors compared to other options is the fantastic convenience they bring to a property. Unlike traditional garage doors, such as up and overs, which pop outwards when opened, roller garage doors operate on a pair of vertical running tracks. This means that when opened, the door retracts straight upwards into a neat box in the ceiling, saving space and meaning the user does not have to worry about obstructions on either side of the door. The retracting motion is also stylish and aesthetically pleasing, and when combined with automated options is extremely convenient to use.
As well as this, the roller garage doors the Rollerdor team manufactures are extremely secure. All of our products are made using the most durable aluminium, meaning they’re able to keep properties secure and give consumers peace of mind.
What Measurements Are Needed?
In order to ensure we supply you with a roller garage door that best fits your property, we ask all customers to provide us with some key measurements. We can then cut your new door to the perfect size for you.
These measurements are as follows:
- Opening width
- Opening height
- Headroom height
- Side room
Every measurement should be taken from multiple angles with the smallest provided to us. This will give you the most accurate dimensions. For help with measuring, check out our tutorial video.
How Much Headroom Do You Need?
Typically, our roller garage doors are fully boxed, which means they can be fitted below the lintel in your garage. However, if you’d prefer the door to be fitted up and behind the lintel to maximise the opening, there is a certain amount of headroom that will be required.
If you’re having an RD55 model installed, you need 205mm2. Or, if you go for the RD77 model, you’ll require 300mm2.
At Rollerdor, we offer the supply and installation of quality roller garage doors. In addition to our installation service, we also offer our customers easy DIY roller garage door kits that allow you to install the door yourself. Every DIY kit comes with easy-to-understand installation guides so you’ll be fully supported throughout the process. To find out more or to receive a free quote, contact Rollerdor today.
